I first found out about WGU about 3 weeks ago from my husband. I'm the type of person who likes to gather as much information as I can before I make a decision. Sometimes I do this to a fault because I never know when to stop looking for more articles/books/websites to read. I often have to remind myself to crap or get off the pot.
As I started gathering information, I found many websites that attested to the credibility of WGU, but what I really wanted was to read about someone's personal experiences; their victories and struggles, as they navigated their way through getting a degree through a virtual university.
One blog that I did find, inspired me to write my own. My hope is that people will read my blog and learn from my mistakes, and even cheer me on when (not if) I need it. I also hope to learn from others, so I do hope that people will find my blog and make comments and suggestions. I'm also hoping that by semi-publicly stating my goals, I'll be more likely to stick with them.
As I write this, I'm still waiting to hear officially if I will be able to start my studies on Oct. 1, 2011. I did get a bill today that said "Congratulations on your acceptance to Western Governors University. We wish you the best in your academic pursuit." but that wasn't the welcome I was hoping for especially since they've been so cordial up until now.
I'm hoping it isn't one of those bad HR jokes that we used to pass around the office, "Yesterday we were recruiting you, today you're an employee".
