Thought I'd abandoned my blog? Not a chance! I've been super busy with this Supply Chain/Operations Management class. It consists of 3 tasks, one of which is completely based up on a simulation. The simulation is a game you play against a computer. The scenario is that you are creating a line of microcomputers. That's right, I said it, microcomputers. Yep, the game is about as modern as the term microcomputer. This simulation needs some serious usability testing. I volunteered. No one else should have to go through what I did. When I asked the course mentor about it, he had no idea what I was talking about. Apparently he still uses a modem and a phone line to connect to the inner-nets.
There are 3 or 4 Courses of Study with this class, depending on where you dig. Some tell you to read some of the text before you do the simulation, others tell you to do the simulation first. I did the simulation first. I still have no idea if my company made money/lost money/went bankrupt/or is the best darn selling microcomputer of its generation. Regardless, I putzed around and let this stupid simulation take me 2 1/2 weeks to complete. Please don't torture yourself as long as I did. It's so not worth it. Besides, if your company sucks, you'll have more to write about in your paper.
Despite this class being 3 credits, and the past ones being 2, I suspect that the writing for this one will be significantly less. This class uses (as far as I can tell so far) real text books. NO! ECommerce was nice enough to use Dummies books, which I loved! They are written in English rather than Ph.D.-elitist speak. *Groan.*
My mentor has been calling me late the past few weeks, but this week she really surprised me...by calling 10 minutes early. Joy oh joy!
Anyway, I don't have to speak with her until after Jan. 1 since I lied and told her I was going to be taking a break from school for the holidays, beginning next Tuesday. I told her that I'd probably be on an airplane during our usually scheduled talk. I also mentioned that I'd be with family for the holidays and reiterated the fact that I probably wouldn't be doing much work. Bingo! I'm free NOT to talk to her for 2 whole weeks. I did promise to email her at least once a week to give her an update on my progress, or lack thereof.
I asked Kelly (mentor) if I had to turn my papers for this class in sequence (Task 1 followed by Task 2....) and if I could turn them all in at once. They don't seem to really follow any order. Since Task 2 deals entirely with the simulation, and yet that was the first thing I did....? Anyway, she wasn't sure about any of it but promised to get back to me. (Just like she promised to get back to me last week and never did.)
My unofficial goal is to have my papers, that's right, all 3 of them. Wish me luck!
Forward!
